Hi All,
A few notes on the end of the semester. Homework has concluded for all math classes. There will be no assignments outside of class time for the remainder of the semester.
Pre Algebra:
Students are participating in a scale modeling project during class this week. They will be assigned points based on the accuracy of their scaling and drawing.
Algebra:
Students are participating in the mid term exam. Students should be studying 15-30 minutes each night on chapters 1-5.
Final grades for the quarter and semester for all classes will be posted to power school as I am able to finish them throughout the break and no later than January 9. Check PS from time to time for updates.
Have a restful break.

Algebra Mid-Term Schedule
The Algebra students are working toward their mid-term exams the week of 12/17-12/21. The mid-term will be given over 2 days and will cover chapters 1-5. The first day of the exam will consist of multiple choice questions covering the 5 chapters. The second day of the exam will consist of graphing exercises covering all of the graphing methods learned this semester. The week of 12/10-12/14 students will participate in a comprehensive in class review of all 5 chapters to prepare for the test. Students that will be gone due to a planned absence for family travel must make arrangements to take the test before leaving.

After School Help Hours
Hi All,
Starting next Monday, 12/10, I will no longer be available after school for students to receive additional help as I will be coaching the FD wrestling team from then through the end of February. Students can still get extra help before school in my room, or they may attend any after school study hall.

Algebra in Q2
Hi All,
Just a quick check in on the progress of the Algebra 1 class. As we move into the second quarter we have completed any and all review material. We are moving into graphing and working with linear equations. Students are expected to bring graph paper, a straight edge and a simple scientific calculator to each class (similar to a TI-30).
Please check in with your student regularly about how they are doing with the new material. Students who have previously been able to "ace" their math classes with little effort often find Algebra 1 to be very difficult. All students will need to do additional work to prepare for assessments, including studying their notes and working practice problems not covered in the HW. I am always available M-Th from 3-3:50 for additional help.

Quarter 2 and Quarter 1 final grades
The second quarter begins today. Class will run exactly as it did in the first quarter with nightly practice assignments and quizzes on most Fridays. All grading policies remain the same. Please remember, there is a full week off from school around the Thanksgiving holiday this year.
First quarter grades are completed for all classes and posted to PS. Expect report cards in the mail by Friday. Semester one grades are 50% Q1 and 50% Q2 and will be given at winter break.

End of 1st Quarter Info
Friday, 10/19, is the final day of the 1st quarter. You can expect to see students report cards by the following Friday via mail. Since students would not have the opportunity to participate in interventions and review their test scores the following week, we will NOT be having quizzes in any of the math classes on Friday. Friday will be used as an all-purpose work period. Students should be prepared to do the following:
1.) Makeup or retake all missing or F grade quizzes.
2.) Complete and turn in any missing HW assignments
3.) Meet with me to discuss their grade and plans moving forward.

Before and After School Help Hours
As the year moves along, all students will struggle with mathematics. It is extremely important that students take advantage of opportunities to receive extra instruction and help with daily assignments. Daily HW is designed to reinforce topics and should be at a level the student can complete on his or her own in 30 minutes or less per night. If HW assignments are taking much longer, or are simply too difficult, this should be a sign to students and guardians that extra help is needed. It is always best if students recognize this and seek help BEFORE a test or quiz.
Students who earn a D or F on a test or quiz may reattempt any assessment at any time during the same grading period and receive full credit for their work. Before reattempting an assessment students must spend a minimum of one extra work session with me before or after school.
My hours for additional help:
7:30-8:15 AM Mon.-Fri.
3:10-4:00 PM Mon.-Fri.
Additional resources:
Ruby Hughes HW Club 3:00-4:30 PM Mon.-Thur.
Breakfast and Books 7:15-8:15 AM Mon.-Fri.
Please note that lunch time is not an available period for extra help as the time is too short for students to eat and concentrate on work.
