Algebra HW Thursday 8/28

Flipped Classes

For all students and families,
As the year progresses, one of my intentions is to "flip" the normal structure of my math classes. This is not a new idea in education, but is something that I believe will make my time with your student more meaningful and effective. What this means is the job of taking notes and copying vocabulary definitions will shift to home. Student's nightly assignment will become copying note sets and vocabulary. In class we will focus on problem solving in groups and individually. Most problem sets will be completed here, as well. This tends to shift the part of the math class where students struggle the most out of your living room and into my classroom. It should also free me up to have more one on one time with students.

This will likely happen slowly throughout the 1st quarter and will start with the algebra 1 classes as I become satisfied that they are very well trained on note taking. Please do contact me with any concerns regarding this strategy.

Pre Algebra 8/27

Students will discuss the note set they took last night in class today. We will practice this work and have a quick, ungraded formative assessment following practice. There will be no at home assignment for pre algebra today.

Algebra Notes 8/27

This will be the algebra student's homework for tonight. They will need to copy the notes into their math notebooks to be ready for class Thursday. Both pages are "right side" pages (they should know what that means) and if they can fit them onto one page they may do so. Will will practice the material in class tomorrow.

Often I will assign only certain problems from these worksheets for HW. I will try to come back and edit the post later if that is the case. However, check your students planner for the assigned set if none is listed.

This is a new feature I am adding to make the website more complete. My main goal here is to allow students who are not in class access to the days lesson from home or on the road. This should make reentry to the class much easier if it is used. Obviously, some context will be lost when students are not present for the lesson, but this is a start. Any feedback you have regarding this would be helpful.

All HW assignments will appear as downloadable files like below. In some cases Algebra HW will come from the student text book, in this case it will be noted here.

OK-Here we go

Both levels of math will begin "normal operations" today. Expect to see HW assignments most days M-Th. HW is not assigned on weekends. Also, expect that there will be a brief quiz covering the weeks topics most Fridays. Students will turn in all HW assigned for the week prior to the quiz on Friday. While it is not collected until Friday, HW assignments are corrected and discussed in class DAILY. It is important to be current on all assignments to participate in class.
