Pre Algebra 5th and 7th Period 10/29

Both assignments will be delayed until tomorrow. We did not finish in class work and will get to the worksheets tomorrow.

Mistake on Algebra Exam

In the answer selections for problem 14 on the algebra exam there was a mistake. There was no correct answer listed. The listed answer of -5/3 should have been 5/3. This was a formatting error on my part and invalidates the question. So, all students will receive credit for this question.

Algebra 10/29

Students will take the Ch.4 Exam. Results posted to PS around 3pm 10/30.

Algebra 10/20

Algebra students are coming to the end of chapter 4. This is an EXTREMELY important set of skills for success in the remaining course and on into algebra 2. Students quizzed over slope-intercept form graphing last week. This is a skill we will use the entire year, so if you did not earn a passing grade make sure you know why and get help now!

Class today will focus on exercises with direct variation:

The assignment for HW tonight will be to complete the notes for section 4.7, which is the last of chapter 4.

As we begin to prepare for the chapter 4 exam, students will participate in a thorough (perhaps exhaustive) review process on key skill. This will involve the addition of graphic organizers to their notes. These will be added in class over the next few days.

Expect the chapter 4 exam to occur Friday this week, or early in the next week. More info soon.

7th Period Pre Algebra 10/20

7th period students will begin work on translating written sentences into algebraic equations. Check planners for specific assigned problems.

5th Period Pre Algebra 10/20

Students will begin work in chapter 3 today. This chapter focuses on dealing with more complex algebraic expressions and equations. A specific strategy and set of steps will be presented in class and students will be expected to be thorough in writing out their thinking. Check student planners for specific exercises assigned. Entire 3.1 worksheet will be completed over multiple days depending on mastery.

Using distributive property to simplify algebraic expressions
Combining like terms to simplify algebraic expressions

Problems assigned for review are 5-12 and 20-31

5th period Pre Algebra 10/15

Students will have informal assessments of material covered during my absence today, followed by review. There will be a formal graded assessment of sections 2.5 & 2.6 tomorrow in class. Topics covered:

Solving one step algebraic equations using all four operations

Problems assigned for review are 5-12 and 20-51

Algebra 10/15

Algebra students will participate in an informal assessment of material covered during my absence, followed by a review assessment. There will be a formal assessment of section 4.4 and 4.5 in class Thursday over:

Calculating slope given two points (using the slope formula)
Using slope to calculate for a missing coordinate
Graphing using slope-intercept form (y=mx + b)

Problems assigned for review are 11-43 odd

Pre Algebra 10/5

Please see the previous post from last Thursday. Intercepts will be covered in class. Due to my absence, notes will be delivered in class for the next two weeks. This will allow the sub to continue providing instruction. Students will have assignments to complete at home. Please check individual planners.

Scheduled Absence

Hello All,
I will be traveling October 9-14 to attend to a family matter. I have secured an experienced substitute who is more than capable of teaching Algebra to our students for the 4 school days I will miss. Classes will continue as normal. However, the website WILL NOT be updated during this time. I apologize for any inconvenience this may create. Also, there will be no quizzes for math classes this week. Please remember to check the website this week through Wednesday and to check back on Wednesday the 15th when I return.

Friday Quiz Topics

Pre Algbera

Integer Operations (multiplication and division)
Distributive Property

Algebra

Input/Output tables
Writing equations in function form
Graphing linear equations

Algebra 10/1

Today students will finalize work on section 4.2. This section covers basic function form (y by itself), creating input/output tables, definitions of domain and range, as well as beginning graphing skills. Students will group solve 3 critical thinking and process problems.

We will also begin to review the notes they were assigned earlier in the week from section 4.3, which covers graphing linear equations using intercepts. Students will construct a graphic organizer that will be added to over time that illustrates two new methods for graphing linear equations. Below are the blank masters for the organizer. There will be no at home assignment.

EDIT********We did make it far enough to assign the note set. Notes tomorrow!

Pre Algebra 10/1

Today in class students will continue to practice with the distributive property. This skill proves quite difficult every year, but it is quite foundational to developing algebraic skills. We will complete another round of group practice and will follow that with a short formative assessment. We will also begin to review the notes students were assigned to copy on Monday from 2.3. Below is the practice form we will use today. Feel free to quiz your student on how to use the distributive property to simplify these expressions. No at home assignment.
